There are over 20 excellent private schools and preschools in this family oriented community. Camarillo is also home to the Pleasant Valley, Mesa Union, Somis Union and Oxnard Union High School districts. Four of the Pleasant Valley District schools have received state or national recognition for academic excellence. Camarillo High School students have received some of the highest Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores in Ventura County and generally rank well above state and national averages. Three junior colleges are located within a 15-mile radius and the new California State University at Channel Islands is just outside of the city limits on the way to the beach.
Elementary
Pleasant Valley, Mesa Union, and Somis Union School Districts oversee elementary through intermediate education. With 14 schools for grades K-8 (including two intermediate schools), Pleasant Valley School District has the largest enrollment. PVSD also operates three alternative schools for those who desire a non-traditional or more structured educational environment for their children.
High Schools
Oxnard Union High School District has jurisdiction over the two local high schools, Adolfo Camarillo High and Rio Mesa High. Camarillo¹s students continue to rank well above the state and National averages, further testimony to the community¹s emphasis on quality education. Thirty percent of Camarillo¹s high school graduates enter the University of California or California State University system and many more attend community and private colleges.
Community Colleges
The Ventura County Community Colleges offer campuses in Moorpark, Ventura, and Oxnard, all within a 15 mile radius. There is also a full service branch of Oxnard College located at Las Posas and Arneill Roads in Camarillo, offering both day and evening classes.
Public Four Year Colleges and Universities
Undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate degree programs are offered at the University of California and California State University. California State University at Channel Islands is just outside of the Camarillo city limits and satellite campuses of California State University at Northridge and University of California at Santa Barbara are located within Camarillo.
Private Institutions
Undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate degrees may be earned from the University of Southern California in downtown Los Angeles, while California Lutheran University in nearby Thousand Oaks offers undergraduate and graduate degree classes. Pepperdine University provides undergraduate, graduate and legal education programs at its Malibu campus just 30 miles southwest.
Specialty Schools
St. John¹s Seminary & College, established in Camarillo in 1939, offers divinity education. West Coast University in Camarillo and LaVerne College in Oxnard provide specialized education programs for working adults.
